Antiques store features art and eclectics

The owners of a new antiques store are continuing a family tradition of operating businesses in downtown Camas. Tony Sampson, his wife Debra and their daughter Belle Mathieu, have been busy preparing to open A Twist on Time. A soft opening is planned for Friday. A grand opening, set for Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will include complimentary refreshments. Also, the first 50 customers will receive a gift with purchase.

Erik Cain, owner of N.W. Cain Inc. armory, provides gun cleaning and repairing services. The new business, located in downtown Washougal, sells optics and a variety of new and used firearms, as well as ammunition, gun racks and cabinentry. Consignments are accepted.

Armory offers services in Washougal

A longtime local resident who has been a gun club member and a private collector of firearms for 15 years has opened a new business in downtown Washougal. Erik Cain, 41, sells pistols, revolvers and rifles, as well as ammunition, scopes, swords, knives and binoculars at NW Cain Inc. armory. Examples of the current inventory include a Ruger P95 automatic pistol and a Smith & Wesson 629 Classic revolver. Cain is a licensed federal and state firearms dealer, and his business is an authorized Swift Sport Optics and ProTec gun cleaning supplies dealer.

Piccolo Paradiso customers will soon welcome new owner

A smooth transition is forecast for a downtown Camas business, and the community is invited to bid farewell to one owner and greet a new one. Pam Brown, owner of Caffe Piccolo Paradiso for more than seven years, has sold her business to Jodi Vaughan. "It feels great," Brown said. "It's what I wanted. It makes it worthwhile that something I put my heart and soul into is going to continue. "I'm very happy with the new owner," she added. "It will be an easy transition."

Wedding Expo is set for this weekend

Local companies, including The Fairgate Inn and Camas Meadows Golf Club, plan to participate in the Clark County Wedding Expo.

Students with Camas Karate participated in the Camtown children's event in Crown Park in June. The business will celebrate its 20th anniversary Friday and Saturday.

Camas Karate to celebrate 20 years

Robert Shipley III remembers the origins of Camas Karate, when it opened in 1990 as Camas Fitness Center. At that time, it included aerobics and a weight room. "At first aerobics did better than karate, but within about three years, we were pretty much just teaching karate," Shipley said. "We've always tried to serve the community by teaching family values and the value of organization, hard work and preparation."

Feed and tack store opens in Fern Prairie

Cowboys, cowgirls and city folks are invited to attend the grand opening of a new feed and tack store in Fern Prairie. Bits n Spurs, located behind Fern Prairie Market, has dog, cat and bird food, puppy shampoo, sock monkey dog toys, feed oats, stall forks, stove pellets and animal bedding. There are also saddles and bridles, poultry grit, western-theme photo frames, John Deere thermometers, Ransom Ranch clothing, wormers for cats, dogs, cows and horses, and other animal health and grooming supplies.

‘Technology 101’ workshops held at WSU Vancouver

The Creative Media and Digital Culture program at Washington State University Vancouver is offering a series of free workshops and lectures. "Technology 101" is a hands-on introduction to digital and social media. Each session, which is limited to 24 participants, is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. The workshops are held weekly, from noon to 1:15 p.m., in room 111, in the multimedia classroom building, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave. Topics include "Search Engine Optimization 101" workshop by Michael Rabby (Sept. 29); "Revealing Methods of Sonic Transformation" lecture by Ethan Rose (Oct. 6); "Photoshop 101" workshop by Kathi Rick (Oct. 11); "Illustrator 101" workshop by Kathi Rick (Oct. 18); and "Discount Usability Testing for Mobile Phones" lecture by Brett Oppegaard (Oct. 27).
