A Washougal man who’s suspected of selling fentanyl to a man who later died from an overdose made a first appearance March 11 in Clark County Superior Court.
Grant Lee Krout, 40, is facing allegations of controlled substance-homicide, possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to manufacture or deliver.
He’s accused of selling fentanyl to Adam Sprague on March 4, 2025. Sprague’s grandmother found him dead later that day, according to court records.
Judge Derek Vanderwood set Krout’s bail at $90,000. Because of the ongoing public defense crisis, no public defenders were available for Krout. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
The prosecution said the case was delayed while investigators awaited results from the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office, including toxicology reports. Court documents show Krout originally appeared on the allegations in March 2025, but the prosecution subsequently filed a motion to exonerate the case, pending further investigation.
