The owner of Juxtaposition, a luxury home decor retailer with locations in downtown Camas and Ridgefield, has announced she plans to close both stores.

“This decision was not made lightly,” Suzanne Ferguson said in a public letter to Juxtaposition’s customers, “and there are multiple reasons in play, both personal and business.”

Ferguson, who opened the first Juxtaposition in downtown Camas in February 2020, less than four weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered retailers across the nation, said her customers have become friends over the past five years.

“We will deeply miss seeing familiar faces in the store,” Ferguson said in her letter. “We have loved being part of these great communities, participating in events and watching your faces light up when we unveil our holiday collections or when we deliver those perfect pieces to your home.”

Ferguson said she plans to close the Camas storefront Aug. 23, but she does not yet have a closing date for the Ridgefield shop.

“Our priority is to make these final months as enjoyable and memorable for you as possible,” she said in her letter.

Ferguson added that she is working with a local broker to find a new tenant for the Ridgefield storefront at 4315 S. Settler Drive.

“While this process can take months — or even years — we will give as much notice as possible for the actual Ridgefield closing date,” Ferguson said in her letter.

Gift cards will be redeemable at the Camas location through Aug. 23 and at the Ridgefield shop until 30 days before its closing date. The shop also will continue to accept and fulfill custom furniture orders out of its Ridgefield location until 90 days before that store closes, Ferguson said.

The Camas store, 425 N.E. Fourth Ave., in the former Camas-Washougal Post-Record newspaper building, has become a destination spot during First Friday and holiday events and is known for its elaborate window displays during Christmastime.

“We can’t close our doors in Camas without celebrating another holiday season with you,” Ferguson told customers. “So, we will be hosting Christmas in July.”

Ferguson told customers to keep an eye out for more information about that event, the Ridgefield store closure and in-store markdowns at the Camas location.

“While I’m heartbroken to step away from Juxtaposition,” Ferguson said, “I’m also excited to see what unfolds in this next chapter of life.”
